I have so much of memories from my first year college life and one among them is about this favourite spot. Ramanujam Computing Centre shortly called RCC is a computer lab for the whole college. It had systems with a very high end configuration but only with ubuntu OS and a very high speed LAN connection, so mostly it could be used only for browsing internet and not for any programming. What I gained from it will be interesting !
It all started with spending time for mails and random browsing due to boredom at hostel. The most common times that I visit this place is everday after dinner. The popular e-mail service those days were yahoomail and rediffmail and my first mail id I created during school days just before joining college was with yahoo. I really regret for deleting my yahoo account as I am not able to read now those chats from history. I used to read blogs, articles and extensively word web & thesaurus and reused them in mails. I tried to express all that I could in mails to my friends and my dad since e-mail was the only medium to be in contact at that time ( no mobile). I admire myself now reading the content I wrote that day.
I did get the e-mail contact of the girls in my class and started letting know about my presence with the e-mail forwards from yahoo and google groups. I also added them to contact list in chat as every other guy in the class did. I was eagerly waiting to kindle a conversation with them and when I was pondering upon it, this girl who I do like most in the class started a conversation oneday over the chat. I remember telling more about me and she too exchanged and the chat lasted atleast for 3 hours. The feel of chatting with a girl first time cannot be described here, that was just ecstatic. From then I used to visit the lab and login the same time everyday on yahoo messenger eagerly waiting to have such chats everyday. Few more people came into contact over chat, all curious as I was. I would meet the same person in class everyday but never spoke to them, but over chat it was too much talks.
I started a blog with blogspot with a good template and started writing content with full enthusisasm and tried to show off my english vocabulary through it. I wrote movie reviews, I wrote about myself, I copied tech stuffs and shared them in the social networking sites : orkut, googlebuzz and facebook. Some friends started appreciating - few liked the content and few expressed that my technical knowledge was good. That made me dig more into the WWW and spend more time on it. I used to spend almost 5-6 hours a day in the computer lab and used to return back at 2AM from the lab to my room after sipping hot tea in the canteen. I started learning web programming and CMS platforms - blogger, wordpress, tumblr and how to use them. What started as a timepass became a passion later and helped me freelance many websites.
The ample time I spent in RCC helped me in shaping my career and passion !
